One Crown Place Launches with Interior Design By Studio Ashby

Words by: Jane Pople

One Crown Place, a 246 – apartment mixed-use scheme on the edge of the City-of-London has unveiled a first look at the interior designs for a range of amenity spaces within the development. Launching the first residential sales earlier this month, they have just released the first look at a range of spaces by Studio Ashby including nine penthouse apartments.

Commissioned to design the scheme’s penthouse apartments, Studio Ashby have also designed communal areas which include a bespoke kitchen, vintage gymnasium, a private dining room, residents lounge, cinema room, treatment room, studio and sharing terrace. With a vision to create a sense of domesticity using a natural palette, they layered texture and pattern to give areas personality without trying to compete with the skyline views of London.

Celebrating the striking architecture, the layout of the internal areas includes bold division of the spaces and a striking selection of art sourced from a rich collection of local emerging artist. In the central living room furniture has been carefully chosen to help promote sharing and sense of community. The comfortable screening room has a warm and intimate atmosphere, with a luxury palette of green marble, satin brass upholstered wall panelling and green velvet. Inside the state-of-the –art gymnasium a series of vintage details can be found within a fresh contemporary environment, creating a timeless aesthetic. Additional amenities include a private dining room designed by Jamie Hayon and a bespoke kitchen featuring a statement blue lava stone delicately balanced on blackened steel supports.

The development’s fully furnished model apartment and world-class suite of amenities encompass the old-meets-new character of the City and Hackney, and the dynamic architectural footprint designed by award-winning international practice Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF). London based interior design practice Bowler James Brindley have designed One Crown Place’s standard apartments and further amenity spaces.

“with one Crown Place’s vibrant location and dynamic architecture, we imagine the residents to be engaging individuals, interested in the arts and explorers of the City of London. For the communal areas, we wanted to create a lovingly curated, domestic environment and make the areas feel like a comforting and luxurious extension of the residents’ own apartments.” Sophie Ashby, founder and creative director of Studio Ashby.

Located in the historic sun street conservation area of London, One Crown Place will deliver a total of 246 private apartments, a boutique hotel, 140,000 sq ft of premium office space, retail units totalling 7,000 sq ft, and a historic Georgian terrace that will be fully restored as part of the scheme. A selection of homes are now available, with prices starting from £735,000 for one0bedroom apartments. The first residents to move in to One Crown Place upon completion is summer 2020

A combination of modern, cutting-edge architecture housing a mix of high specification offices with spectacular apartments across several buildings, One Crown Place also includes two striking terracotta clad towers, the tallest of which is 33 storeys high. An additional level of character is created through the restoration of the last remaining Georgian terrace in the area, which will house a clubhouse for the residents and a boutique hotel.

John Bushell, Principle at KPF, said; “This project means a great deal to me; I feel passionately about it. We are a modernist firm and embrace modern architecture but we feel it should have soul and character, humanity and a rich spatial and material experience. Our vision for One Crown Place was to respect its context, using the buildings and materials of the past and evolve this into a really intricate and innovative design which will transform the local area.”
