Family Home by Studio Ashby in United Kingdom
Recently commissioned by the Crown Estate’s Cleveland Court Mews Development, Studio Ashby has completed the design of a house in St. James, London as part of a trio of Georgian mews houses. For one of the three houses, Studio Ashby has created an aesthetic inspired by the rich artistic and architectural heritage of the area in order to create a real, authentic home. Art is a strong theme of the house, and modern art from emerging, established and graduate artists is used throughout.
The overall colour palette was inspired by the work of British Abstract Figurative artists, whose works hang in the nearby National Gallery. Rooms are filed with texture and earthy tones, creating a calm and peaceful retreat in bustling central London.
The Studio has created several bespoke pieces of furniture for the property, including a table which combines an unusual black fossil marble top and minimal base structure in black powder coated steel. These are all woven into an overall design, filled with intricate details, which truly capture the feel of a real home.
Standout pieces of art include Tim Hall’s series of photos taken at Skedar Lake in the Balkan Peninsula and Jesus Perea’s geometric prints in the bedroom. Studio Ashby even designed a rug in the master bedroom based on the organic patterns of Paul Klee. The intricate wall hanging displayed in the media room was sourced on a research trip to Cape Town. It beautifully illustrates the way that, in all its work, Studio Ashby carefully layers art and found objects between furniture and lighting to create spaces that allows your imagination to truly take you there as an owner.
