About Us

Design for life with heart and soul

Sister was born in 2020, bringing Sophie Ashby’s curatorial eye and designer’s hand into a world of furniture, textiles, artworks and objects. Sister is a design brand with heart and soul. Collections of furniture are designed by Sophie and our team, and made to order by hand with our extended family of workshops and fabricators. In five years, Sister has established a cult following in the design industry as a brand of exceptional quality with a zest for life.

Artist Showcase – Applications Now Open

We are excited to announce our first Open Call for artists who are interested in showing their work at The Blewcoat School as part of our artist programme at Sister.

The Sister Artist Showcase is an opportunity to spotlight emerging visual artists by exhibiting their work within the studio of Sister – deepening connections between artists, our community, and art enthusiasts.

Launched in 2020, and previously know as the Artist in Residence programme, the Artist Showcase was born out of our belief that creativity flourishes in spaces that feel lived-in, layered, and personal. Housed at The Blewcoat School in Westminster – a Grade I listed former school dating back to 1709 – Sister offers artists not just a platform, but a home.

Each year, a small number of artists are invited to join us. These artists are hand-selected by Studio Ashby founder Sophie Ashby, whose curatorial eye and passion for art are deeply embedded in the Sister ethos.

Craftmanship

While we’re playful by nature, one thing Sister takes very seriously is the art of craftsmanship. Every piece of furniture and upholstery we create is meticulously designed in-house, ensuring that each item reflects our unique vision and aesthetic.

All our furniture and upholstery are made in the UK and brought to life by skilled artisans who handcraft each piece with unparalleled attention to detail. We are also proud to say that all our rugs are made in the specific regions known for producing the best quality, such as Morocco, India, and Turkey.

We are committed to using sustainable materials, carefully sourced to minimise our environmental impact. Our craftsmen are life-long experts, with years of experience honed in their trade, ensuring that every curve, joint, and finish meets the highest standards of quality and durability. This dedication to craftsmanship guarantees that our furniture is not only beautiful and functional but also built to last, embodying the timeless elegance and integrity that Sister stands for.

Care & Upkeep

At Sister, we take pride in offering only the highest quality furnishings made from the finest fabrics and materials. As with anything in life, proper care and maintenance are key to preserving your new purchase and enjoying it for years to come. Here are a few tips to help you take care of your furniture.

UPHOLSTERY

Protect your furniture by avoiding direct sunlight and rotating reversible cushions at regular intervals. To keep your sofa cushions in good shape, vacuum them weekly on a low suction setting to remove any dust particles that may damage the structure of the fabric. If you happen to spill a liquid on your furniture simply dab it gently with a dry cloth, avoid rubbing the spot as it can cause further damage. We suggest using a professional furniture dry cleaning service for both fixed and loose covers where appropriate. This will help maintain the quality and longevity of your furniture.

MARBLE

Clean your marble tops regularly using a marble and granite cleaner with a non-abrasive cloth. Don’t use vinegar, lemon juice, or any cleaning products containing acid on your marble tops. Remember to clean up any spills immediately to prevent staining.

WOOD

Use insulated placemats to protect your surfaces and avoid marks using rubber protective covers. Be careful with sharp objects like cutlery and pens, and try not to drag crockery across the surface as they can leave marks. Avoid using cream cleaners, vinegar, lemon juice, or other acidic cleaners, as they can harm your furniture. And be sure to choose the right furniture polish for your surface.

METAL

Taking care of your metal furniture is pretty simple, clean it with some mild soap and water. Make sure to use a non-detergent soap. After cleaning, dry it off with a towel to avoid any rust-inducing moisture. Don’t use abrasive scrubbers or cleaners as they can scratch the finish and damage your metal furniture.
