CARE AND UPKEEP

At Sister we sell the highest quality furnishings using only the finest fabrics and materials.  By following these basic care and maintenance guidelines you will be able to enjoy your new purchase for many years to come.

Everything from the location of your furniture to the way you use it can affect its preservation and longevity.  Avoid placing furniture where it can touch an external wall as this can create moisture build-up. Likewise, placing it too close to radiators can increase the risk of scorching damage or discolouration.

Upholstery

Protect your furniture by avoiding direct sunlight and rotate reversible cushions at regular intervals.  Sofa cushions should be vacuumed weekly on a low suction setting to remove any dust particles that may damage the structure of the fabric.

We recommend that you use a professional furniture dry cleaning service for both fixed and loose cushion covers where appropriate.

Most velvets we carry are natural, cotton products.  Velvets can be prone to marking caused by pressure in transit or in use.  Most marks can be removed by smoothing the velvet with a soft brush and/or gentle steaming.  In some natural velvets, crushing is an inherent characteristic and cannot be removed. If a liquid is spilt on your velvet furniture, it should be immediately dabbed gently with a dry cloth. It is import not to avoid any rubbing.

Marble

Clean your marble tops regularly using a marble and granite cleaner, specifically intended for natural stone, and a non-abrasive cloth. Do not use vinegar, lemon juice or any cleaning productions contain acid on your marble tops. Liquids spilt on your marble tops should be cleaned up immediately.

Rugs

It is advised that you rotate your rug every 4 months especially in high traffic areas to maintain the quality of the rug. This will also help to prevent discolouration or fading from areas in direct sunlight.

Once your rug has been delivered and unpacked, indents and folds will take up to 3-4 weeks to flatten out. In some cases, the rugs may need to be rolled the opposite way, to get rid of creases.

We would recommend always using an underlay or anti-slip mat.

Rugs should be vacuumed regularly. Remove spills immediately by blotting the spill with a dry absorbent white cloth or white paper towel. It is important that you do not rub the patch.

We recommend having your rugs cleaned once a year with a trusted professional.

INSTALLATION

Before confirming your order with us, be sure to measure the area you wish to instal the furniture piece. Make sure that the furniture item you are interested in will fit into your space. Remember, we create bespoke sizes too, so measurements can be altered to suit you and your home!

If you are unsure as to whether the furniture item will fit into your desired space, we will gladly assist you with this. Send us a floor plan of your home / the area and our bespoke furniture designer will confirm if you have selected the right piece for your space. We could also suggest new measurements.

Check all entry points and establish which will be the best route to use for installation. Explore all options such as the front door, back door, side doors, the garage or even a window if needs be.

Apartments: if a lift is required, please ensure you have accurately measured the height and depth of the lift space. It is also important to take into consideration the maximum weight allowed within the lift.

Going up? Remember to measure the width of the staircase (including the banister). We would also suggest checking the distance between the stairs and the ceiling too.

Before your bespoke item is delivered, we would suggest you clear the pathway to avoid anything getting bumped or damaged, and to make for easy installation. Things like rugs, decorative accessories, artworks and special items could get damaged while the furniture is being installed.
